Associate Professor
Lois A. Brink
Professor Brink is a tenured faculty member of
the University of Colorado’s College of Architecture and
Planning in the Department of Landscape Architecture and
Director of the Children Youth and Environments Center for
Research and Design. She received her masters of landscape
architecture from the University of Pennsylvania’s
Graduate School of Fine Arts in 1978. Prior to joining
UCD, Professor Brink spent ten years in private practice
in Philadelphia and Denver. She has been at UCD for 17 years, during five of which she has served as departmental chair of the landscape architecture program. Her research has spanned a diverse array of landscape intersts, including mine land reclamation, new community development and ecological design. Her most recent research has been into the design and implementation of Learning Landscape, a $25 million initiative that has improved 36 public school grounds for community and educational use.
Kathleen Butler
Kathleen is the chair of Project Angel Pride. During her career, she has been involved as a management analyst for the City and County of Denver; a research associate for several consulting companies analyzing the impact of growth on a variety of communities; as a commercial real estate agent; as co-owner of World Art Explorers; and as a research assistant for CRNA, working on affordable housing. Kathleen holds a B.A. in political science from the University of Colorado and a MPA from the Univ. of Colorado-Denver.
John E. Freyer, Jr.:
John is an East High alumnus, Class of '95. After attending Washington and Lee Univ. in Virginia, he spent the past six years involved with a variety of new ventures, including a telecom startup and a Denver commercial bank. He is currently employed by the Land Title Guarantee Company. John brings his energy, entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to East and the Project Angel Pride board.
Mark E. Hoskin
Mark is president of Mark Hoskin Architects. He attended the Univ. of St. Andrews in Scotland and McGill Univ. in Montreal, graduating with B.S. degrees in science and architecture. Mark's list of credits includes many architectural and preservation projects. Besides serving as a Project Angel Pride director, Mark is active in the Kiwanis Club, Court Child Care Center, the National Western Stock Show, the Denver Agriculture and Livestock Club and the National Western Club. Mark has volunteered as the manager and coach of the C&C Soccer Club. He enjoys fishing, traveling, wine and reading.
Mike Langley
Mike Langley is the marketing principal for the Denver office of Durrant, a national architecture and engineering firm. Before joining Durrant he served for nine years as the executive director of facilities management for the Denver Public Schools. He and his DPS team successfully organized and implemented bond issues totaling $615 million for construction of 14 new schools, dozens of school additions and hundreds of repair and maintenance projects, as well as several learning landscapes. Before he joined DPS, Mike served in the U.S. Army, where he gained construction experience building housing, offices, maintenance facilities, hospitals, warehouses, retail facilities and schools in several foreign countries. He holds a BS in engineering from the Univ. of Wisconsin, an MS in systems management from the Univ. of Southern California and an MBA from St. Martin's College in Washington. Mike is a member of the Council of Educational Facility Planners International, the president of the board of the Forest Hill Metropolitan Special District and serves on the board for the Denver School Facilities Leasing Corp.
Helen S. Kuykendall
Helen has nearly 20 years of professional experience in the field of landscape architecture, with an emphasis on heritage areas and cultural landscapes. She gained extensive experience planning and designing parks, trails, parkways and historic sites nationwide during several years with the National Park Service. She has been employed for several years by the Denver Department of Parks and Recreation where she has put to use her extensive knowledge of landscapes, historic resource management and interpretation planning at the local level. She is currently the project manager for Civic Center, City Park and 17 Denver neighborhood parks. She holds a BA from the Univ. of Wisconsin-Madison and a master of landscape architecture from the Univ. of Colorado-Denver.
George R. Pond
George is responsible for the oversight and execution of the Denver Zoo's Millennium Master Plan as director of the Department of Planning and Capital Projects. For the past five years, he has been instrumental in designing, constructing and coordinating several Millennium projects for the Zoo. He holds masters degrees in architecture and landscape architecture from the Univ. of Colorado-Denver and a B.A. in English from Kenyon College. George is a senior instructor in the Landscape Architecture Department at the University of Colorado-Denver.
